Venus & Adonis - The School of Love

The baroque ensemble la festa musicale from Hanover, in cooperation with the artists' collective ĀrtHouse Graz, is bringing the first English-language baroque opera by John Blow, entitled "Venus & Adonis - The School of Love", to the Albert Einstein School (AES) in Laatzen and to the big stage: for six months there will be workshops for the choir, stage design and costumes, but also for dramaturgy and marketing. The students will actively participate in the creation process of an opera production and will be on stage together with la festa musicale and international soloists in February 2024. The six performances are planned both at the school on 17/18 February and for 24/25 February 2024 at the Galerie Herrenhausen in cooperation with the concert series Herrenhausen Barock of the City of Hanover.

With their opera project, the musicians of la festa musicale want to build bridges of understanding in their immediate surroundings for people who do not come into contact with classical music in their everyday lives. At the same time, the ensemble questions its own work by placing centuries-old music and its content in a contemporary, broad discourse. Content, they firmly believe, that has much to contribute to very current discussions.

The patronage for the opera school project has been taken over by Lower Saxony's Minister of Culture and Deputy Prime Minister Julia Willie Hamburg. The opera project is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media "Excellent Orchestra Landscape Germany".
